Attention everyone! Today I'm finally kicking off my first official design project on this blog. It's a small one but it's something I've been meaning to work on for a while + I figure there's no time like the present. (Once again I find myself saying YOLO! - jokingly of course.)
Anyhow today I'm redoing a wall in my bedroom. ....err, rather I'm doing it for the first time. The wall above my bed has long been a vast, vacant space. I put off styling the area at all because my other half is 6 ft 4 inches tall and, in our other place, he always managed to knock everything off the wall. (I swear we can't have nice things.)
However, I've been on this huge inspiration kick, as you may know. I've got big plans for this year + I've come to realize that a big part of accomplishing things is just being able to visualize them. Then it got me thinking... what if I could use my big, lame blank wall, for good? Like a semi-permanent/super stylized vision board? (Light bulb moment, amiright?)
A few minutes after my little epiphany struck, I was chatting my handsome man's ear off. Since it's a shared space + the previous decor problems was caused by one of us (cough, cough) I thought we should discuss what we each want out of the finished look. It actually turned out to be pretty simple so I'll just list it for you.............. now!
- Items that cannot be knocked off of the wall
- Minimally invasive/easy to remove since we may be moving soon
- Works with our current bedding
- (Last but not least) INSPIRATIONAL
Once I had my brief, the pinning began! See below for some of my initial inspo!
So as you can see, initially I was diggin typography prints, the idea of frame-less photos, string art, and hanging reads from bars. Sadly my partner in crime nixed the "book bar" idea because he's apparently in love with bookmarks + doesn't want to risk his precious pages getting warped. (Sigh) Still, the words + frame free images prevail!
The "inspirational" aspect will be brought in by the photos, artwork, + string art. We plan to display pictures that remind us of where we plan on going + quotes that will help fuel or plans! ....Ok so "B#tch I Might Be" isn't really inspirational but it made us laugh which is uplifting in it's own way. (Haha) I really want that print!
As far as color goes, I already have a medium grey bedspread so I wanted to work with that. I'm still a little unsure about the wall color but I'm learning towards a clean black + white look. Maybe I could throw in a few colored photos in to spice it up? Or do the String art with colored "inner" string? Input would be greatly appreciated here!
After much debate, this is my look so far...
The couch represents the current color of my bedding + I already have a faux fur throw. I wanted to add some fun pillows that would help the bed mix a little better with the black + white thing going on on the wall. Washi tape frames will keep things cool + Tony proof. (Yay!) Lastly the string art will add a bold pop + make a strong statement.
Well what do you think? There's still a ton to work out but I really wanted to get this out there so we could workshop it together! Give me all your feedback cuz I'd really like a fresh set of eyes on this!
